Robotic Surgery

Surgeon-controlled robotic technology that enables greater precision through smaller incisions for select cardiac and thoracic procedures.

About This Procedure

What is robotic surgery?

Staying at the forefront of advancements in technology is one of the hallmarks of Phoenix Cardiac Surgery. Robotics extend surgical capabilities beyond the limits of conventional techniques such as laparoscopy. We use robotic surgery primarily for thoracic conditions — lung and esophageal cancer, thymic tumor removal, and certain diaphragmatic disorders. Robotic surgery is also used for select cardiac procedures, including minimally invasive single-vessel bypass, where the robot harvests the donor vessel for bypass of the left anterior descending blood vessel. The robot is fully under the control of the surgeon — it does not perform the operation itself.

Who Is a Candidate ?

Procedures we perform using robotic surgery.

  • Lung & esophageal cancer

    Robotic-assisted resections for thoracic cancers.

  • Thymic tumors

Removal of thymic tumors via robotic approach.

  • Single-vessel cardiac bypass

Robot harvests the donor vessel for LAD bypass.

  • Diaphragmatic disorders

Select diaphragm conditions treatable with robotic precision.

  • TREATMENT

    Minimally Invasive

Heart surgery performed through smaller incisions — typically 3–4 inches — resulting in less trauma, less pain, and faster recovery.

The Process

How robotic surgery is performed.

  • STEP 01

    Pre-op planning

Imaging and surgical planning confirm robotic approach is appropriate.

  • STEP 02

    Robotic-assisted procedure

Surgeon controls robotic instruments through small incisions for precise tissue handling.

  • STEP 03

    Recovery

Shorter hospital stay and faster return to activity than open approaches.
